We see it all the time — a 6-year-old hits a tough stage in an activity and suddenly says “I don’t want to do this anymore.”
Parents naturally think, “They’re young, it’s fine to quit.”
But here’s what we’ve learned through years of teaching martial arts:
👉 Kids often say they want to give up right at the point they’re growing the most.
👉 In class, those same kids are motivated, smiling, and making progress — even though at home they say they want to stop.
👉 What they’re really struggling with isn’t the activity itself, but learning how to push through challenges.
One of the greatest life lessons we can give our children is:
✔️ Don’t quit on a tough day.
✔️ See commitments through.
✔️ Only step away when you’ve finished on a positive note.
Of course, if an activity is making a child unhappy or they truly don’t enjoy it, that’s different. But for the majority of kids, resilience is a skill worth building.
That’s exactly what we specialise in at Evolution Martial Arts in Dunfermline & South Queensferry. We use martial arts as a fun and engaging way to develop confidence, perseverance, and grit — while making sure kids feel proud of themselves every step of the way. 🥋
